Rodent in My Room
Friday, August 17th, 2007The movie Ratatouille that is on cinema recently somehow reminded me of the rat that was in my room quite sometime ago. It was during my student life when I was still living with my coursemates in Setapak. Back then, we’ve just newly shifted into a new house and we found out that there was a rat problem.
It was only one big fat rat that gave us all sorts of problems. (Believe me…this was one real smart rat). Initially, it just cause menace in our kitchen. Somehow we found out how it got into our house which was through the sliding glass window in the kitchen. So we blocked it. We were very sure it won’t cause us any troubles anymore. Well, not to others at least…but to me and my roommate.
It has found another haven…. my room! There were one or two occasions when we were both sound asleep. Then it crept into our room through the window. I still haven’t figured out how it climb up there cause my room is upstairs. Anyway, it scared the hell out of me and my roomie. We shut the window before we sleep every night eversince.
When semester break came, all of us went back to our respective hometown of course. I spent my holiday without much thought of that rodent. After that (I don’t quite remember how long), I went back to my house. Alas, that sly rat had been partying in my room. The extent of the damage was so unbearable. Apart from rat poo all over my room, it has been biting everything it got its teeth on. I found only empty packages of my Tiger biscuit and Chupa chups that I left in the room. It has also left its mark on my wooden hairbrush which I have no choice but to throw it away. Sadly, it has found a certain fondness towards the little stuffed koala bear too. It was a gift from a good friend of mine. That rat has bitten off the poor little bear’s butt…Sigh… I have to clean up all the mess.
So that’s it. I’ve had enough of the rat’s mischief. I declared war on that particular rat! I remember getting a rat trap but I don’t remember ever catching it. (Did we, my housemates?) But then there weren’t any troubles from it eversince.
I guess adorable rodents can only exists in movies like Ratatouille. It is about a rat talented in cooking French cuisine but the rat in my room can only be talented in freaking me out. I’m sure the word ratatouille exists in French but I don’t know what it means. Seems appropriate for this movie though… Sounds like a dish made by a rat… ‘Rat’-atouille… Hehe. Haven’t watch the movie yet though. Should I?
